MaskShare Privacy Policy

MaskShare is a Chrome extension that helps you hide sensitive information while presenting or screen sharing through browser-based services such as Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp Web, YouTube, GitHub, and other websites.

With MaskShare, you can create draggable and resizable privacy masks over webpage areas, move and resize them, choose from solid, black, blur, and other visual masking styles, and customize mask color, opacity, and blur intensity. You can also hide or show masks, use keyboard shortcuts, and save presets for common privacy scenarios.

MaskShare is built around a simple idea: your data belongs to you. The extension does not operate a backend server for collecting user data, and it does not:

• Collect personal information.
• Collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, payment information, or account credentials.
• Sell or rent user data.
• Share user data with advertisers, analytics companies, or data brokers.
• Send webpage content, screenshots, or screen recordings to the MaskShare developer.
• Record screen-sharing sessions.
• Track browsing history for analytics, advertising, or building user profiles.
• Use webpage information for advertising or future unrelated purposes.
• Use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.

MaskShare uses Chrome extension content-script capabilities to display its privacy overlay on webpages. The extension may run on supported webpages because its core functionality requires placing the masking overlay on the page.

MaskShare does not intentionally collect, copy, upload, or transmit the webpage's text, images, form data, passwords, messages, or other webpage content. Webpage access is used only to provide the masking functionality.

MaskShare stores extension configuration in your browser so the masking features can work. This can include:

• Mask positions and dimensions.
• Mask visibility state.
• Mask style, color, opacity, and blur settings.
• Mask labels.
• Extension preferences.
• Preset configurations.

The extension uses Chrome's storage APIs for this configuration. The current implementation uses Chrome local storage for global mask state and Chrome sync storage for certain settings and preset configurations.

Chrome local storage is stored on your device. Chrome sync storage is managed by Chrome according to your Chrome/browser synchronization settings and may be synced across devices where you are signed in to Chrome.

MaskShare does not send the stored mask configuration or webpage information to a MaskShare-operated backend server. The developer does not receive a copy of your masks, webpages, screen contents, or browsing activity through the extension.

MaskShare does not sell or share personal data with third parties. No advertising networks, analytics providers, data brokers, or tracking services are integrated into the extension.

MaskShare can be used while you visit third-party websites such as Google Meet, Zoom, WhatsApp Web, Microsoft Teams, YouTube, GitHub, and others. Those websites have their own privacy policies and data practices.

MaskShare does not control how those third-party websites collect or process information. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of the services you use separately.

MaskShare is designed with a local-first approach and does not maintain a MaskShare server containing users' webpage data or screen contents.

No software can guarantee absolute security. We recommend keeping Chrome and your operating system up to date to help protect your device and data.

MaskShare does not maintain a developer-controlled database of user information. Configuration stored through Chrome's storage APIs remains subject to Chrome's storage behavior and your browser/profile settings.

You can remove stored MaskShare configuration by removing or resetting the extension, or by clearing its stored extension data through Chrome.

MaskShare is a general-purpose productivity and privacy extension and is not specifically directed toward children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of the page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how MaskShare handles your information.
